abortionist ...
Edward (Eddie) was very active in a political sense in his early years. He was the Associated Student Body (ASB) President at Glendale Academy in his senior year. Then at La Sierra, he was deeply involved in numerous student government committees and school associations. He was the Sophomore Representative of the ASB, belonged to the American Temperance Society, wrote articles for the Criterion, was quoted in the college newspaper, received a special scholarship, managed different college activities, was referred to highly by fellow students, and was on the Dean's List.
Quarter Horse racing caught Allred's attention for the first time in 1956 while at La Sierra. He noticed in a Daily Racing Form article that the Allred Brothers (no relationship) were running Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos (the track he now owns).
For some unknown reason, he abruptly leaves La Sierra for about a year, only to return in 1957, to complete his education in 1959 at this institution.
Edward marries Charmay in 1960. He then attends Loma Linda Medical School and graduates in 1964. No public information was found about his activities while at Loma Linda, with the exception that he may have purchased a racehorse.
Shortly after graduation from Loma Linda, he spent two years as a captain in the medical corps, one year in Virginia and another year in Vietnam where he spent some time on the war-front near the Cambodian border. Upon his release from the military in 1967, is the same year abortion is made legal in California. By 1969, Allred, along with Kenneth L. Wright, founded the Avalon-Slauson Medical Group which was later renamed Family Planning Associates (FPA), a medical group specializing in abortion. This starts Allred's abortion mill.
Side note: Almost everything up until 1967, suggested Edward Allred was a most ambitious Christian young man. He had natural leadership abilities, a take-charge attitude, and wanted to make a difference. He was unafraid to question but appeared to be compassionate. To become an abortionist seems odd when reading about his youthful journey. It seems something profoundly changed his private opinion about life. He did not simply start a business, he was on a mission to destroy with a ferocity.
Family Planning Associates Medical Group reportedly makes $70 million in revenue and $5 million in profit annually. The number of claimed abortions by Allred after a few years in business is so incomprehensible, it is beyond belief. By 1980, his clinics aborted more infants than 3 1/2 times the total number of Americans killed in the Vietnam war. He continues killing until he sells Family Planning Associates 25 years later. The total number of aborted infants by Allred and his team is unreported but it has to be staggering.
“Population control is too important to be stopped by some right-wing pro-life types,” in a 1980 interview with the San Diego Union newspaper Allread was quoted. “Take the new influx of Hispanic immigrants. Their lack of respect of democracy and social order is frightening. I hope I can do something to stem that tide; I’d set up a clinic in Mexico for free if I could. Maybe one in Calexico would help. The survival of our society could be at stake… The Aid to Families With Dependent Children program is the worst boondoggle ever created. When a sullen black woman of 17 or 18 can decide to have a baby and get welfare and food stamps and become a burden to all of us it’s time to stop. In parts of South Los Angeles having babies for welfare is the only industry the people have.”
... most rarely did both of their names appear together publicly over a lifetime ...
Understanding Edward through his relationship with his wife, Charmay ...
Charmay Luzette Bourdeau was one year younger than Edward. Her father, an Adventist, worked as a cardiologist in Glendale, California.
Both Charmay and Edward (Eddie) attended Glendale Union Academy and afterward both attended La Sierra College. Each was extremely active separately in college affairs and student committees. Her name was mentioned over 70 times in the La Sierra newspaper while attending college. Both were high achievers academically. Nothing in the public record suggests they dated in high school or in college.
The first time their names are in print together is in 1960, announcing they had wed in Hollywood. Charmay's name then drops from public view for a prolonged period. While still in California, she co-mothered Rives Allred Wiggins' four children for a significant period of time. It is believed, Rives (who is Edward's sister) worked at the Westmoreland Clinic, one of several of the Allred abortion locations.
In 1993 she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, presumedly without Edward, where she stayed until her death in 2020.
A relative said, "Charmay was a remarkable Christian soul who devoted her life to helping people, protecting the unborn, feeding the hungry, supporting the arts, supporting political positions and candidates, and promoting world peace."
In Santa Fe, she has been quoted a couple of times as saying, she did not want to talk about love.
There is little to no mention of Charmay personally participating in any Adventist causes in her adult life.
Charmay died last year at the age of 83. Edward's name finally appears with her's again albeit in her obituary.
